Garrison Woods is a community in the South West section of the city of Calgary.
Development of the community started in the late 1990's and consists of single family homes as well as town homes and duplexes.
The community was built on former CFB (Canadian Forces Base) land after it's closure in the latter part of the 1990's.
As a result, to honour it's former heritage, there is a military theme throughout the community from it's street names to the monuments found in some of the local parks.
Marda Loop is also part of the community. Marda Loop is a popular area with many unique shops, restaurants and coffee houses.
Many Calgarians enjoy strolling on 33rd Avenue, the heart of Marda Loop, bordered by Altadore, Garrison Woods and South Calgary.
Considered an inner-city neighbourhood, with access to downtown either through 14th Street, through the neighbouring community of Altadore. However, Crowchild Trail provides good access to the core as well as to many areas in the city.
Excellent bus service to the down town core. Shopping can be found in the community, as well as the stretch known as Marda Loop. Both Signal Hill and West Hill shopping centers are within a short drive of the community.
Schools can be found in the neighbouring communities.
