Devonian Gardens is one of the largest indoor parks in the world. It is conveniently located in the downtown core of Calgary. Core being the operative word, as the gardens are located on the top floor of a shopping centre now called The Core.
It originally opened in 1977. In the summer of 2012 it reopened, after having been closed for a few years to allow for a complete renovation.
Without a doubt many people who work downtown enjoy slipping into the Gardens for a coffee break or for lunch.
It certainly is a relaxing environment for many people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of a major Canadian city such as Calgary.
Many people who come to shop in the downtown area also appreciate the serenity offered while visiting the Gardens.
The gardens are a great place to enjoy all year long, but more so during the long winter months, where it is nice to see living plants.
Besides the literally thousands of plants here, you can find bridges, waterfalls, benches, ponds with fish and more. Many people, old and young alike, enjoy the fact that food can be bought to feed the fish.
Without a doubt, parents appreciate the playground where the little ones can enjoy themselves.
Some couples have their wedding at the Gardens, while others come to have their wedding pictures taken amongst the beautiful foliage.
The Gardens also host many other private and corporate functions.
