Altadore is a community in the South West section of the city of Calgary.
Development of the community started in the mid 1940's and consists of single family homes as well as multi-family units.
Rumor has it that the meaning of the name of the neighbourhood was chosen, as Alta, from the previous abbreviation for Alberta and dore which translated from french means golden. Simply stated Golden Alberta.
Entering into this community one can see that the name suits the area. River Park is on the eastern edge of the neighbourhood.
At this park, one can enjoy breathtaking views of downtown to the south.
To the east is gorgeous valley views, including views of the river and Sandy Beach areas.
River Park provides many with a wonderful refuge in that it is over 21 hectares of pure natural beauty within the heart of the city.
The park is an off leash area and many Calgarians and their furry friends can be found enjoying the park every day.
Marda Loop is also part of the community. Marda Loop is a popular area with many unique shops, restaurants and coffee houses.
Many Calgarians enjoy strolling on 33rd Avenue, the heart of Marda Loop, bordered by Altadore, Garrison Woods and South Calgary.
Considered an inner-city neighbourhood, with access to downtown via 14th Street SW. Close proximity to Crowchild Trail which provides good access to many areas in the city.
Excellent bus service to the down town core. Shopping obviously in the Marda Loop area as well as Garrison Woods. With both Signal Hill and West Hill shopping centers within a short drive of the community.
Schools can be found in the neighbourhood and surrounding communities.
